We now move on to Bowling:

Most wickets (10 and above):

Steyn leads Pollock by a large margin. Note D Olivier with 24 wickets in this series.

Best innings bowling (6wi and above):

D Olivier is the only one from the present series. Abbott’s 7-29 was on debut.

Pollock has the best average, Kaneria the best economy if you go to three decimal places and Steyn the best strike rate.

Boucher is far ahead of the others, with GC Smith having the most catches by a non-keeper. Boucher also has the most stumpings and catches by a keeper, while GC Smith has the most catches by a non-keeper.

Sarfraz and de Kock have the most dismissals among current players, followed by Amla with the most catches by a non-keeper.

Most dismissals in an innings (4 and above):

This includes two fivers by Sarfraz in this series. Taufeeq Umer has the most by a non-keeper.

ABD’s 11 dismissals gives him a share in the world record (with Russell and newcomer Pant). There is also a 10-for by Sarfraz in this series. Taufeeq Umer also has the most by a non-keeper.

Boucher again heads this list. Younis Khan has the best average by a non-keeper, with Amla having the best by current players.

T20Is of 2018

The Test cricket caravan for 2018 finally comes to an end on December 30.

Meanwhile we look at the T20Is of 2018, which had concluded earlier in the month.

Here Afghanistan has a clean sweep, including minnows as well as regulars such as Bangladesh. Pakistan has a more valid claim to the top position, as they do in the ICC rankings.

Some statistics for individual performances are given below. As in the above table, the one match involving the ICC XI is not counted.

Most runs: 250 and above:

Shikhar Dhawan is far ahead of the rest.

From 2019 onwards, all T20I matches will be considered official and there will be no select list of T20I countries as there is for ODIs. So matches including presently unranked teams will figure in these statistics, as it already does with women’s T20I matches.

After covering general results and batting figures in the first part, we move on to bowling figures:

Most wickets (25 and above):

Qadir has by far the most wickets and Anderson is unlikely to overtake him. Broad and M. Amir are next among current players

Qadir again at the top. No good performances in the last few years. In fact the 2018 series did not see anyone take a five-for.

Underwood and Qadir lead. Nothing from the current series, though Woakes and Yasir Shah are there from 2016.

Bowling averages (Minimum 2000 balls, all instances):

Anderson has by far the best bowling average, followed by his partner Broad. Qadir is somewhat further down. M. Amir is also there from the current series.

The best economy rates are by Iqbal Qasim (1.82) and DA Allen (1.90). The best strike rates are by by Waqar Younis (48.5) and almost the same by Anderson (48.6).

Wasim Bari has by far the most dismissals, followed unexpectedly by Kamran Akmal. Bari and Sarfraz Ahmed have the most stumpings. Cook, Miandad and Younis Khan share the record for non-keepers.

Sarfraz Ahmed has done this in 2015, 2016 and 2018.

Wasim Bari and Kamran Akmal (!) have the record of 8 dismissals. Bairstow had 7 in 2016. Greig and Hick have the most catches (6) by non-keepers.

Knott and Taylor lead, while Asad Shafiq and Cook have the most among current players. Trescothick and Atherton have the best rates for non-keepers. Sarfraz Ahmed has not played enough.

Botham and Broad lead, followed by Intikhab Alam at a distance. Imran Khan does not seem to have played enough.

Imran and Botham appear here twice apiece, along with some unexpected appearances by Abdul Qadir and others. Qadir has one of the rare doubles of a fifty and ten-for in a match, while Botham had a century and 8-34.

 

 

 

 

Quick statistical summary of the 2017 Champions Trophy

Here we focus on individual performances rather than the end result.

Most runs (100 and above):

No one scored more than one century. Several made 3 scores of 50-plus.

Dhawan, RG Sharma and Tamim scored the most runs.

Though there is not much sense in calculating averages and strike rates with a lesser number of matches, we can see that Kohli averaged 129.00. Next is Stokes with 92.00

The highest strike rate here is by HH Pandya with 194.44, with Fakhar Zaman, Dhawan and Morgan just crossing 100.

Highest individual scores (75 and above):

Consistent performances by RG Sharma, Dhawan and Kohli except in the final. Other consistent performances by Tamim, Fakhar Zaman and Williamson among others.

Hasan Ali clearly leads, while Hazlewood took most of his wickets in one innings. In this limited sample, Hasan Ali has the best average and best economy while Hazlewood has the best strike rate.Plunkett is the only one with two 4-wicket hauls.

Note that startling consistency of Hasan Ali who took exactly 3 wickets in an innings in 4 matches.
