England won the series 1-0 with 2 rain-ruined draws.
This was their first series win against Pakistan since 2010. A summary of series since then:
2010: Eng won 3-1
2011-12: Pak won 3-0 in UAE
2015-16: Pak won 2-0 in UAE
2016: Drawn 1-1
2018: Drawn 1-1
2020: Eng won 1-0
Here is a summary of all Tests between these teams:
And this was the WTC points table after the series:
We now look at individual records, starting with
Most runs (1000 or more):
Root and Azhar are the only current players here, while recent retiree Cook heads the table.
Mohammad Yousuf has the most centuries (6), followed by Cook and Inzamam with 5.
Inzamam has the most 50+ scores with 15, followed by Mushtaq Mohammad with 14.
Highest innings scores (175 and above):
The only such instance in this series was 267 by Crawley, which was his maiden century. It is the second highest for Eng vs Pak, after Compton’s 278 in 1954.
It ranks high among the highest maiden centuries:
It is 7th on the all-time list and second for England, surpassed only by RE Foster’s 287 in 1903-04.
Then we come to
Highest batting averages (Minimum 20 innings, all cases):
Among current and near-current players we have Root near the top, followed by Cook, Asad Shafiq, and Azhar Ali. Even Anderson finds a place here.
Finally, there are Highest strike rates (Minimum 1000 balls, all cases):
Some of the earlier players do not have full data for balls played. But there is no dispute about Pietersen’s position here, followed by Root and Inzamam. Asad Shafiq and Bairstow are next among current players.
I normally do not cover partnerships, but this time 5th wicket partnerships are covered:
Highest 5th wicket partnerships (250 and above):
The 5th wicket partnership of Buttler and Crawley (359) in the 3rd Test was the highest by England against all teams, surpassing the 254 by Fletcher and Greig in 1972-73. It is also the 5th in 5th-wicket partnerships in all Tests.
To be continued.
