Continuing with Bowling statistics:

Most wickets (20 or more):

Shakib leads by a large margin over Shahid Afridi (the original one). From India, the best is 32 by Ashwin.

Best innings bowling (including all 5wi and over):

BAW Mendis and Herath have much better innings analyses than others including Umar Gul and Sam Curran. Curran’s 5-10 was the best in 2022. For India, the best is 4-11 by Ashwin in 2014

Best bowling averages (Minimum 500 balls bowled, all instances):

Only 7 bowlers have bowled enough to qualify. S Ajmal is closely followed by Ashwin, who is the only Indian player here. Next is Shakib.

Summing up this table:

Best averages: Ajmal, Ashwin

Best economy rates: Ashwin, S Afridi

Best strike rates: Ajmal, Ashwin.

Next we come to Fielding statistics:

Most dismissals (12 and above):

The most dismissals are 32 by ABD and Dhoni. AB de Villiers has 9 dismissals as a keeper and 23 as a fielder, while all of Dhoni’s 32 dismissals are as a keeper.

Kamran Akmal is next with 30 dismissals as a keeper, including the most stumpings at 18.

de Villers has the most catches as a fielder (23) followed by DA Warner with 21.

Most dismissals in an innings (4):

Nobody reached this level in 2022. Dhoni is the only one from India, and the only one to appear here twice. Also note the 4 stumpings by Kamran Akmal and Ramdin. DJG Sammy is the only fielder here.

Best dismissal rate (Minimum 20 innings and 0.600):

The best here is by the “hybrid” AB de Villiers with 1.066. Next are Dhoni and Kamran Akmal with 1.000.

The best by a “pure” fielder is 0.678 by MJ Guptill followed by current player GJ Maxwell (0.666)

Finally, we come to all-round performances:

Overall: Minimum 20 innings batted and 500 balls bowled:

Only 3 qualify here, with only Shakib having a creditable performance.

However, we get another viewpoint here:

Best match performance (Minimum 30 runs and 3 wickets):

The best performances here would be by DJ Bravo (66* and 4-38), followed by SR Watson’s 72 and 3-34 and Shakib’s 46 and 4-9. The best for India is by HH Pandya in 2022. Also note CR Brathwaite’s 34* which included 4 successive 6s in the 2016 final.

Review of West Indies-Bangladesh Tests (June 2022)

West Indies won this series 2-0.

Here is a summary of all Tests between these teams:

Note the exact symmetry: WI leads BD 7-2 with one draw both at home and away. In 2009 Bangladesh won because of the absence of many WI players. These were the first two Tests won by Bangladesh away from home. They also won 2-0 under normal circumstances in 2018.

Looking at individual performances, starting with

Batting:

Most runs (350 and more):

Brathwaite, Tamim and Shakib are bunched together at the top.

Chanderpaul has the most centuries (4), while Shakib has the most 50+ scores (10, but with no centuries). Bratwaite has 8 including 3 centuries.

Highest innings scores (120 and more):

Sarwan and Samuels are far ahead of the others. Mayers scored 210* on debut in a 4th-innings chase which his team won. The highest for Bangladesh is 136 by Mahmudullah.

Highest batting averages (Minimum 20 innings, all instances):

Led by Brathwaite, but Shakib is close behind.

Highest strike rates (Minimum 1000 balls faced, all instances):

Headed by Shakib by a large margin over second-placed Tamim. DM Bravo has the best for WI.

Now for Bowling:

Most wickets (12 and more):

Led by Shakib, Roach and Miraz.

Roach has the most 5-fors (4) while only Miraz and Holder have taken a 10-for.

Best innings bowling (includes 6wi and more):

Miraz is the only one on either side to take a 7-for. Lawson’s 6-3 is the best for WI, and the best 6-for in any Test.

Best match bowling (includes 8wm and more):

Headed by Miraz and Holder. Lawson appears at the bottom of this list.

Bowling averages (Minimum 2000 balls, all instances):

Shakib is the only one who has bowled enough.

Now for Fielding:

Most dismissals (8 and more):

Headed by Mushfiqur and Ramdin. The most by a fielder is 13 by DJG Sammy.

J Da Silva has the most dismissals (16) among current players.

Most innings dismissals (4 and more):

While several WI players have taken 5 in an innings, Khaled Mashud is the only one from BD to take 4. DM Bravo is the only fielder with 5 catches.

Most match dismissals (5 and more):

Led by three WI players with 7 in a match. The best for BD is 5 by Nurul Hasan twice. DM Bravo has the most by a fielder (6).

Best dismissal rate (Minimum 20 innings, all cases):

Headed by Mushfiqur, while Brathwaite has the best by a fielder. Apart from Mushfiqur, no keeper has fielded for 20 innings.

Shakib is the only one to have batted and bowled enough.

Match (50+ and 5wi):

Only three instances, all by Shakib. His best performance was in 2009, where he narrowly missed a century and 5wi.

Review of India-West Indies Tests (2019)-2

Kapil has the highest tally here, while Ashwin and I Sharma have the highest among current players.

While Kapil has the best performance here, spare a thought for JM Noreiga who played only in 4 tests but still had the best innings performance for the West Indies in all Tests.

Ashwin (2016) and Bumrah in this series have the best figures among current players.

Hirwani’s match figures are the best for India in all Test. UT Yadav (2018) and I Sharma (2019) have the best figures among current players.

Best bowling average (Minimum 2000 balls, all instances):

Hall and Walsh have the best bowling averages, while Ashwin and I Sharma have the best among current players. It can also be seen that GE Gomez and Gibbs have the best economy rates, and that Hall and Roberts have the best strike rate.

Dujon has the most dismissals and catches, Dhoni the most stumpings and Richards the most catches by a non-keeper.

WP Saha is the only one with 6 dismissals in an innings.  SD Hope made 5 dismissals in this series. DJG Sammy has the most catches by a non-keeper with 5 in 2013, which is a share in the world record. Also note KS More’s 5 stumpings which is a world record.

Most dismissals in a match (6 and more):

I v WI match dismissals

Dhoni has the most dismissals here (8) while More’s 6 stumpings is a world record. Both his records came in Hirwani’s record bowling performance. The most catches by a non-keeper are 6 by ED Solkar, in India’s first victory against WI in 1971.

Best dismissal rate (Minimum 20 innings, 0.500):

Dhoni has the best rate here followed by Dujon. While CL Walcott played some of his Tests as a keeper, the best rate by a non-keeper is 0.800 by Azharuddin.

Sobers has by far the best record here, followed by Ashwin who is again far ahead of Kapil. JO Holder and Chase have the best record among current players, while Mankad had a relatively poor record against WI.
